The Lands
Amar is the continent that spans from the frozen ice and snow in the Sea of Ice and Fire in the north down to the sun baked deserts of Sardakai in the south.
The Northlands are those lands on the continent of Amar that exist above the Frostguard Mountains which are the northern border of the Kingdom of DhanKanath.
There are no large unified kingdoms in the Northlands as the area is populated by several city states. While there are those whom might call themselves a king in the Northland, typically each city state is ruled by a Jarl.
The People
The majority of the inhabitants of the Northlands are human yet other races are certainly found amongst the Northlands as seaborne trade brings many northward in search of adventure. Goliaths, Dragonborn, Gnomes and Halflings are seen wandering the towns and cities of the Northlands; but they are very few in number.
Half elves are found in many areas but in most cases a half elf is only 1/8th or 1/16th elven. A true Half-elf is very rare as in many cases elves are extremely rare.
Most of the Dwarves in the Northlands come from the Dwarven city of Stonehold far to the East as there are no other known Dwarven settlements in the area.
Elves are extremely rare in the Northlands and they tend to keep to themselves in most cases. Elves seen travelling about are almost always on some mission or purpose for their elven enclave.
History
In the beginning, the lands of Amar were controlled by the two first born races, the Valmarans and the Do-riath (or dragons). The second born races of Humans and elves were created by the gods to be ruled by the first born. As many know, the Valmarans fought and defeated the dragons and became masters of all of Amar. The elves and humans eventually rose up with the help of the metallic dragons and defeated the Valmarans thousands of years ago. Today remnants of Valmaran buildings and towers are sometimes found around the lands and are typically places to be avoided by most or sought out for by treasure hunters.
Recent History
In the last 5 years a war of rebellion has been waged in the Kingdom of DhanKanath. The civil war spilled over the borders to include the Kingdom of Camora which was defeated and subjugated by the forces of the Dragonking. Eventually the forces of the Dragonking defeated the rebel forces on an ancient battlefield. This ancient battlefield was where the Valmarans were first defeated by the elven and human host many thousands of years ago. Recent rumors claim that the Dragonking and the rebel forces were both defeated; but in many cases these rumors are conflicting in nature and it is really hard to understand what actually happened.
