Creation Myth

Father Beowin begins by telling of the supreme being, his court and about how the lands were created and inhabited by the first two immortal races…

On Creation

In the beginning, before the dawn of time, there was Belos the Creator and it was he who created the world, known as “Amar”, from his magical forge in the heavens.  From amidst the darkness he created and molded the lands and seas of Amar.  Along with creating Amar, he also created the “Illenaer” and the “Vashtaur“, or Holy Ones, who were the offspring of his thoughts; and they were given the powers of the elements and told to continue and mold the lands and seas as they saw fit.

The Illenaer

A wide range of deities are worshiped around the lands of Amar; but for the most part, it is the Illenaer, the Elemental Gods, who hold the largest followings. There are 6 primary Elemental Gods who make up the Illenaer.

  • Solatar (the Sun God, Lord of Light)
  • Myriel (the Earthmother)
  • Aerlynn (Lord of the Sky and Air)
  • Carandaur (the Frost Father, Lord of the Cold)
  • Berenchor (Lord of Waters)
  • Janos (Lord of Fire and Destruction)

Recently there has been a rise of the worship of the God Kor within DhanKanath who is of the likeness of the first two First Born races, the Valmarans and Dragons.  The red priests of Kor are now found in most towns and cities in the realm.

The Vashtaur

Belos also created minor deities and they are known as the Vashtaur. Along with the Illenaer, the Vashtaur have significant followings in the lands of Amar.

  • Valkyros (The Champion of light, God of Justice, Protector of the Illenaer)
  • Elenchal (Lady of Peace and Healing)
  • Baureth (The Stormlord, Master of Thunder)
  • Verauk (The Warlord, Lord of Battle)
  • Aranthor (Lord of the Hunt, the Horse Lord)
  • Varmirion (The Moon, Lady of the Night, Goddess of Peace)

The Dark Court

Many who inhabit Amar also believe in a “Dark Court”. It is thought that there was a seventh Illenaer, Balach Lord of the Dead, who was cast forth from Illenaer for his evil thoughts and teachings and it is he who commands this court. This group of gods consists of evil beings and are worshiped by those evil in nature. Many names can be added to this court; but they shall not be uttered here.

The First Born (the Immortals)

The first to walk the lands of Amar were two races known as “The Immortals” which are known in the Eldar tongue as the “Arach-Dyar” and the “Do-riath”.  Both races are more commonly known as the Valmarans and the Dragons in the human tongue.  For many years both First Born races lived together in peace; but over time the Valmarans grew restless and they asked the Illenaer for creatures to rule over.  Thus the Illenaer created the Second Born races, the Eldar and Bruni, or Elves and Humans.  The Valmarans made slaves of the Second Born races and all other creatures and beasts of Amar.

Rule of the First Born

One of the rules passed by the Illenaer was the Rule of the First Born. This rule forbade any struggles between the Valmarans and the Dragons and for eons both races lived in peace. But as time passed, once again the Valmarans grew restless, this time of their First Born brothers. Many say that Balach the Cruel helped the Valmarans break the Rule of the First Born which helped the Valmarans enslave the Do-riath as well.  For many ages, the Valmarans ruled with an iron fist over all… and all suffered under their rule.

The split of the Do-riath

Under the iron fist of the Valmarans, five of the royal houses of the Do-riath, those dragons of metallic color, rose up against the Valmarans and with the help of the Eldar and Bruni; they fought against the Valmarans for hundreds of years. After many years and after the sacrifice of many, the metallic dragons, elves and men were finally able to defeat the Valmarans; but that story is for another day.
